Heidelberg and Surroundings

Close to the point at which the Neckar flows in to the Rhine and famous for its picturesque Old Town with the romantic appearance of its palace ruins as well as the renowed and oldest university of Germany, Heidelberg lies in one of the warmest areas of Germany, where the Neckar river flowes in the middle of the Odenwald Mountains, passing numerous castles. The Odenwald is one of the global UNESCO Geo-park networks and is characterized by plateaus with coniferous forests and steep valleys.

Various tourist destinations in the neighborhood such as Schwetzingen, Speyer, Worms, the Bergstrasse or the Neckar Valley with its Odenwald forests, the technical museum in Sinsheim or Worms or even the near Palatinate  can offer you an extensive program for excursion to sights nearby. Cruising with  Heidelberg’s “White Fleet” along the Neckar Valley offers an attractive way to explore the Neckar Valley without a car.
